pistons types

I have a farmall H that I would like to overhaul, but not sure how much difference in the different types of pistons available. How much horsepower between flat head pistons versus crater type pistons versus step head or dome pistons.

YUP! Like I said Not much.

Really if you want to increase your HP so that it will mean something it will take a lot more than just changing pistons.
You need to up the compression a lot then increase the bore get a better cam and carb and maybe add a hotter spark. Then you may be able to increase by 25% to 50% that will mean something.
The guys on the Pulling circuit do a lot more than that to their machines just get them to double the HP.
I have heard of increasing the CI on a Case LA from 403 to over 1000 you won't believe what it take to do that.
But you can do some small things that will increase your HP a little and give you that extra punch but still be legal as a stock tractor. That will include using dome pistons if they were available as a stock replacement. It all depends on how much you want to spend and how bad you want to win. I have high compression pistons and an LP head on my Case LA an it helps but I'm still way off the winner's circle when competing.
