Hi folks,

I"m planning to expand my garden and I"m thinking of purchasing a single bottom plow. I"m looking at this one (see link below) from tractor supply.

I have a 51 8n. Has anyone tried this plow with an 8n? Is it the proper size?

TIA

grossman......the 8N was designed for 14-inch 2-bottom plows. Yes, they will also pull 12-in 2-bottom plows but will only pull 1-16" bottom plow. Man-up and work yer 26hp 8N with 12-bottom plow.

tip: there are 16-pages of "how-to-plow" in yer 8N's Owners handbook. .......plowman Dell

Dell,A 8N pulling a 12 bottom plow, would be unbelievable.I don't think so!Plus it would be to big for garden use.:-)

I don't have any experience using the plow you are looking at, but for the price I think I would go to some farm auctions or look at Craigs list for a Ferguson or Dearborn plow. They go for around $250 or less, and I suspect they might be just a tad bit better than what you are looking at. After all these plows were made for N tractors.

Yes it will easily pull it. I use a Dearborn 14-2 bottom plow for mine. Turn it for winter.... Look in the clasifieds for a used plow. Probably get one for 100-300 bucks.

I'll second the idea of searching for a good used 2 bottom (10" or 12"). With any luck you will be able to find one with both coulters+blades and a rolling landside wheel for less than that bare bones TSC plow. It will plow faster, straighter, and easier as well. I just purchased a nice 2-12 Dearborn as above for $250.

I believe Dell meant to say a 2-12 bottom plow, however,I agree that you can get a much better plow by looking at auctions,Flea markets in rural areas. Here in Tn,almost every day there is a flea market in small towns around. This plow,in my opinion,at 500.00 is not a very good match for an 8n.---lha

I've seen the exact plow at a tractor repair shop and the only thing that it looks like it would hurt to use it would be your pocket book.

Dell is correct. The 9/2/8N Ford Tractors were designed to pull 2 14" plows. They will handle 2 14's in over 80% 0f soil conditions.

i have a used single bottom plow that is in great shape. asking 200.00 if you live close too michigan. i can post a pic if you like.

here it is.

Don't get hung up on Dearborn - it's the configuration not the name you are looking for.

A two bottom 14" plow should work well with your 8N. However, for a garden a single bottom plow is more then sufficient for the job. A single bottom has the advantage of being lighter so you have less weight to move around when hooking up or storing. It should cost less used or new and it is easier on your tractor. Don't pass up a good deal on a single bottom plow. I have a single bottom plow that I have used for 40+ years behind my 8N. If I had acres to plow a two bottom would be my choice but for my garden a single bottom work great.

A couple of years ago I wanted to plow up 2.5 acres around the house that was all weeds. I wanted to plant bermuda grass. I set out looking for a plow and within 20 minutes found a Ferguson two bottom. 2-14-A, I think it is. No coulters but did have the tail wheel. It still has the factory tag on it. It was perfect for the job. I turned over that ground three or four times. It did the job and now is just sitting out under a tree. I thought about "restoring" it but probably won't. I paid $275, I think.
