Is a plow frog a left frog if it turns the soil to the left and a right frog if it throws the soil to the right? What direction does a one way plow throw? I have only ever used a 2-way IH 314.

Curt: I agree with Gary on the one way plow.

Re; the two way plow. I have been involved in several discussions and without using part numbers, I often heard parts refered to as parts of the left turning bottom or right turning bottom. The first time I heard that was from partsman and a guy buying parts. You'll find all parts of farm equipment having right or left designation, it will be from standing behind the machine, looking in it's direction of travel, while working.

Not all the one way plows throw to the right, most do but not all as a lot of the horse plows threw to the left and possibly some of the earlier tractor plows as well.

Thanks for the reply Hugh, I was hoping you would chime in. (I was going to call out for you by name with my question, but did not want to exclude others) I finally found the parts book that shows the bottoms. They are not included plow model books. The IH parts book refer to right and left, but typically only show the right in the drawings. It turns out that I have 4 left Super Chief frogs and some left side heels that bolt on to the long land side on the last bottom. I bought the whole pile of parts because I needed both a left and right heel for my 314 (there were 4 lefts and one right). I'll post an ad and see if I can find a home for these extra parts.

Curt: I wish you were closer to me, I'd be interested in one of those left turning bottoms. I picked up a 16" one bottom, one point fast hitch plow for my 140. Someone has robbed the left turning bottom; frog, moldboard, share, landside all missing. I haven't looked very hard, expect if I did, I could find one close to home. I'll watch the local auction curcuit this spring.

Leroy: I knew you had to be, I'll be 67 come spring. Not many younger than 60 remember those plows. I once tried chasing down a Deere 114 or 116 baler. I couldn't believe the number of folks that couldn't remember the cross bale chamber.
