Wow it still has the joiners they are hard to come by. Its a #8 Litle Genius I-H Great condition and can be converted to hy lift easy.

It is a no * McCormick Genius like others said but I have never seen those shares or moldboards before , must be for certain area. Hopefully someone clears that part up.

H Gene, your comment they can be converted to hy lift quite easily. Could you give me a little more info as I do have one of these plow's and would be interested . Thanks Murray

You are right, they don't look like common Plow Chief or Super Chief bottoms.

Not certain, but they look a lot like some I saw a guy have on his contest plow one time. He called them "Scotch Bottoms".

Finding a junk one would work parts are bolt on. Yrs ago local weld shop made a simple attachment that used two single cult cycls had two pcs of pipe for the cycl rod to push then had holes drilled that you used a pins for setting depth 3-14s and M for power plowed many many A with it.

They made a hydraulic conversion kit for them , I had one on a plow I bought a few years ago may have a pic.

Woodvue,

Do you live in Canada? Reason I ask is because a lot of old plows in Canada were equipped with "Ace" moldboards and these look like some variation of that. The Plowman might chip in here as he should know.

Ace moldboards are longer and narrower than American "plow chief" moldboards.

Woodvue, I think I understand you are going to sell that plow to me, or am I wrong on that? Seems it should work out that way!

I suggest you NOT convert it to hydraulic lift....that plow in that shape needs to stay just as it is...it is a classic. You can always find another plow and convert that to hydraulic lift if you think that is needed.

Boy oh boy...that rig would sure look nice in my shed or at our shows.

I will have to dig out my plow book and see if it has any info in it , I am pretty sure it has a picture of those and other "odd" moldboards.

Thanks for all the replies. Yes it is in Canada and yes it is for sale. It is in great shape, I am wondering if it is a match plow???

Woodvue I am to far the trucking would cost 2000 or more. I do admire from a distance and think in louisiana that would be a very rare plow .

For some reason that plate on the tail wheel looks
like it is not "standard".
The pic of Robs plow looks like our #8---shorter.

Wondering if the shares/ moldboards aren't replacements
made for "minimum till" type of plowing. I've seen
shares & moldboards for converting to min till
advertised in farm magazines many years ago.

Guys,
In 2008 I stopped to visit with Hugh MacKay, a most remarkable person. He lived straight east of Port Huron in the flat lands and good farming country. He showed me his IH plow that had a "3rd lever" up front that could adjust the width of the cut of the plow...he said IH of Canada years ago built and made changes to what we Americans thought of as a standard #8. I think that large blue plate is one of those changes.

I also went to a Canadian plowing contest about 5 years ago and they had a lot of plows (#8 included) with adjusting levers for width of moldboard cuts....many of them were 2 bottoms and each moldboard was only cutting 11 inches each!
In those contests the appearance and neatness of the finished field is a priority....they drive about 1 mph and
the open furrows are the neatest and straightest I have ever seen.

Hugh also said Americans call their plows "#8 Little Genius", but IH Canada just called them "#8".

Those contests are by Europian or International Rules. Fun to watch, I am going to see that again some fine day.

Woodvue,

I would love to see that plow someday, just to look at it.
What area of Canada do you live? (Without being too specific).

Are you planning on selling it?

We are in southwestern Ontario, about and hour and a bit from Port Huron MI. Yes it is for sale on the photo ads

It looks to me like a Hamilton-built #8. The frame is different from the US #8. Looks like the frame is adjustable for cutting width (rebolting at different beam spacing). It can be clearly seen in the second and fourth pictures.

IH had a couple Canadian plow bottoms not usually seen in the US. One was the ACE and the other REX. The bottoms on this plow look like one or the other. I believe that the long mounting plate for the tail wheel was to provide clearance for the long ACE and REX moldboards. At least at one time, the Ace was the standard bottom and the REX (along with other types) was an option. My reference lists ACE as a 7-inch and the REX as 8-inch. I presume those measurements to be the cutting width of each point. I would like to know the measurements on this plow for the beam spacing and the actual cut of each bottom.
