Plow question

About a month ago I posted over on tractor tales about a fast hitch 2 bottom plow I was interested in if anyone here saw the post. Well the equipment jockey cant make up his mind if hes even selling them. Moving forward a local guy has a set of IH 2 bottom plows that are 3 point. I have prong adapters, and a top link setup now on the tractor that I use with my snowblower, back blade, and brush cutter. Tractor is a 300 Farmall. Probably should have mentioned that ! Right now the tractor is set up as I have down pressure on the fast hitch. Tractor does not have a cylinder on the right side of the hitch to control depth or pitch Im guessing? So my question is this. What do I need to do to the tractor besides plow setup to make this work ? Im going to look at the plow tomorrow. From what I have heard its always been inside, with good wear parts. Price is in the 2 to 300 dollar range. Ill only be plowing 2 or so acres, but I want it to work right. Thoughts ? Thank you !

Attach the plow to the hitch and top link. drive the tractor left wheel up on a 7 or 8 inch block (wood, not concrete). lower the plow and adjust level and pitch till the points are flat on the ground. That starting point will be far better than guessing as it plows. Plow for a few yards, (the fact that both rears are on flat ground will still make a OK furrow. Now plow into that furrow with the left rear nicely in contact with the furrow wall. Stop and use a tape measure to determine how far the inside of the furrow tire is from the colter, or shin of the first moldboard. it should be the same as the inch dimension of the plow, if a 2-14 plow it is 14 inches. if 2-16 it is 16 inches. adjust this to the plow by moving the wheel inward or outward to get it right. I have not plowed with a 3-point plow on a fast hitch. I would start as Jim said. But it always seemed to me on a fast hitch plow the down pressure always kept the plow from working right a dealer told me to take the 5/8 bolts out of the top of the fast hitch sockets where they go through the wishbone so the plow could get in the ground and draft properly if needed. not sure about a 3-point you might keep that in mind.

Are you getting a two 16 or three 14 plow? The 300 likes a plow this size for most soils. You might need to dish the wheels to plow with a 2-14 set up. You might be better off with a pull behind plow like a Little Genius.
