I found a plow share in the woods next to a field by my house is is a CP6174 DS, It is very rusty but seems to be intact and not worn out. Is it worth any thing to anyone and what implement would it have gone to?

thanks in advance Paul

A rusty plow share isnt worth anything to anyone. Except as maybe yard art or similar. A plow share would only fit a moldboard plow. However, many non farm people often call any type of ground engageing
part(shovel,sweep,chisel point...) a plow share.

Someone would have to be looking for that in particular. The CP 6174DS is a chilled bottom, 12 in, right throw, that fits the B, BA, BB & BBA bottoms
for wheeled & tractor plows. It's interchangeable with the CP 6002DS.

Suggest
Chilled iron ,best you can get ,the rust scour off that in no time. Chilled iron last three to one compared to steel . To the right plowman s it would be a good share to have plowing .
Very brittle don t drop it on concrete .

Have to see it to evaluate it any further . Wondering why it s in the fence row ?

Good post

Possibly lost off plow while working as the bolts can come loose and let a
share fall off not to be found again.

Reminds me of when an old farmer nearby passed away and a sod farm leased the land. They plowed it and ran their fancy rock picker over it before seeding grass. That machine fished out all kinds of rusty stuff along with the rocks. Plow shares, spring harrow teeth, corn picker or binder chains, manure spreader beater bars, steel wheel cleats.

If you still have it. I'd be interested in getting a picture of it. I'm looking for one to replace a broken one on my plow.
Unlikely the original poster will see this. The last time they visited the site was December 14, 2023, well over a year ago. Your best bet to connect with the OP is to see if they left an email address in their profile. If not, you're out of luck.

What's important is the number on the share. If it matches what you have, it is correct. Different number won't fit.

The part number they listed is the part number I'm looking for. I'll definitely see if they left contact info in their profile.
