I believe its a planter not a plow. A #99 maybe.

Looks like a drawn planter of some kind that was converted to three-point hitch. Definitely not a plow.

Probably a 999 corn planter that has been converted for a 3pt hitch like many old horse drawn planters.

Thank you all for the kind hearted education.. I’ve heard from family members it was sold as a kit with a model B tractor. how would I know a year or confirm a model number on that planter? Is this something people buy? It’s about to be scrapped and that seems unAmerican to me.

It sure appears to be a 999 planter. They were produced from 1912 to 1951 (longest production run of any John Deere planter). In the later years the 999-L was available from the factory with a three-point option. Yours appears to have been originally a drawn plow (possibly horse drawn) and had a homemade three-point conversion put on later in life. Looking at the seed boxes and lids I'd guess yours is probably 30's or 40's, but I'm not an expert. The earlier ones had cast iron lids on the seed boxes, then went to lids with the stamped John Deere logo like yours, and then eventually to a later style box with a plain stamped lid with no logo.

If it does go to the scrap yard, at least pull the seed boxes and lids off. They are worth far more than the rest of the unit as they were usually the first part to rot out or disappear.
