Just wanted to let you guys in on a lesson learned. After I rebuilt my Super A engine I didn't bother to buy a set of copper core plug wires. I figured if carbon core wires worked on my Toyota then why in the world wouldn't they work on my SA? Besides, I had a whole milk crate of carbon core wires to choose from.
Since the rebulid, the SA would pop and spit at idle and it had a slight knock in the engine. The idle adjustment didn't make a hoot of difference weather it was almost all the way in, or out far enough for the spring to release tension. No difference. I didn't think much of it. After all, it's a 1948 what could I expect, right?
Well, here's the lesson. I was making an order here and thought I'd get a set of plug wires. Not because I thought they would help, but to make the wires a little neater with the right length. After installing the copper wires, no more poping or spitting. She runs smoother than I thought possible. No more engine knock. Carb responds to the low speed adjustment screw like it was new. So, for those of you who think like I did, "it can't really make a difference", take it fom me, it REALLY REALLY does. Lesson learned.
