long reach is not just the electrode. the actual thread body is longer and the threads screw into the head threads to the required depth. using just a D16 plug does not use up all the threads in the head and the remaining ones fill up with carbon. the when u want the correct plug it wont screw in all the way.Good comments above , did a search , do a search to see what has been discussed, can really help you.

The extra length must be for idlers, cuase extra length would get to hot to plow and cause predetonation missed.
