Points cam lube

Going to put in a new set of point so I needed some of that points lube. Neither Napa and O'Reillys had any specifically made for dist. cam lube.

I finally checked with a friend and he had a tube of Bluestreak dist. points cam lube. It's in a small blue tube with big letters "Lubricam" on it. He said it's very old but still good.

What do you guys use for cam lube now? Do you apply this all around the shaft or just to the cam rider on the points?

I have a tube of Standard Ignition Lubricam that I bought in 68.

Been using it ever since.

Going the way of the buggy whip.

OK, but it says moly lubricant. It doesn't say anything about being specifically for points cam lube.

But it does say you can make four payments of $2.51.

OK, it does say something like that in the small print on the tube, best I can make out.

i'm happy with mine. the install was easy. on a side mount, i bet it practically installs itself

It used to. I haven't ran it in about a year and a half. Now I can't start it. Battery is dead but even with a jump starter it turns over but won't start. Last time I put points in it was maybe 15 years ago when I installed a whole new distributor. I have a new set of points and condensor but am waiting on some new screws from McMaster so haven't installed them yet.

hopefully, he or someone else will see this and can provide the proper part number. i am looking at their site but am not finding it. mine is a 91247 but i think that's front mount only.

Did you try cleaning/burnishing the contact points with a piece off card stock or brown paper bag, even a folded-up dollar bill. Often that is all it takes to remove the oxidization that develops on points from setting. Clean new points that way as well.

Standard has a distributor cam lube, Lubricam, part number SL-2. Check your local parts stores, O'Reilly's is one that shows it available.

After setting a year and a half, you could have fuel system problems as well.

Yes, I did try to clean the points as you suggested. I even ran a small file between them. The fuel could be bad but it should have at least fired a bit with starter fluid sprayed in it while cranking.

I never get to worried about cam lube. I use whats in my
grease gun. Just use. A wooden toothpick band give it a
slight amount in front of the rubbing block. That is a very
small amount and is all that is needed.you must make
sure of this as too much and it will get in the contacts
and then I will have no spark. More important is to make
sure the points are set to spec. And then time the engine.
The carb is always set last.

last time I had some, in 2019, but the ECHLIN points are no longer good; can't be gapped right. Get STANDARD IGNITION/BLUE STREAK, p/n FD-6769X, or CNH p/n 87744524.

I have a tube of Mallory point cam lube that I've had for at least 35 years,when I had a '73 Ford truck with
Mallory dual point dist. With just using a small dab each time I replaced or cleaned the points,it is almost
full even after all these years.

From what I've been able to find out, Blue Streak only makes points for Harley Davidsons now.

You can easily get BWD,made by Standard. I have been using them for years after using a set from New Holland
that didn't align out of the box. O'reillys has,or can get a set and they aren't too expensive.
