Polarize the 3414

So the 3414 Diesel was not charging when I got it. The PO had removed the original 3E battery and box so he didn't have to buy a battery to fit, and mounted a homemade box behind the seat and installed a 24 battery, negative ground. I believe this tractor is supposed to be 12V positive ground, correct? I am in the process of moving the box back so I can also move the seat back, and want to get the battery hooked up correctly, and polarized to match. Can anyone confirm the positive ground polarity, and the proper polarizing procedure to match? Thanks!

Polarizing?

Does that tractor still have a genny? Thought them alternators don't need that step?

Anywho.....

The manual for my 2444D states that: "The alternator-generator and voltage regulator are designed for use on a twelve volt negative ground electrical system. Note: Failure to observe the following precautions will result in serious damage to the electrical equipment.

The first line sez....

"Do not attempt to polarize the alternator-generator." -(Emphasis Theirs)

So, I personally would say no.

I can tell you a B414 was negative (edit oops) positive ground from the factory. CNHI IH B414 elect. diagram
And if it has a Delco generator you momentarily touch short across the BAT terminal on the regulator to the GEN terminal. If it has a Lucas system on it I can’t direct you to the correct process on that.

Thanks- just did a little searching and they are positive ground- I'm hoping that's why it wasn't charging, and hoping it's not boogered from being backwards. My search even turned up a positive ground Pertronix for the gassers
