Poly sprayer tank

3 point sprayer with a 200 gallon poly tank.

Got no space to keep it under roof, and the sun has been kinda hard on the top part of the tank.

Thinking I'm going to paint the tank with Krylon Fusion paint (supposed to work on plastic)to block the UV rays.

Think the sidewalls of the tank are thick enough to tap with a 1/4 pipe thread, so I can mount a level/sight tube on the side? Could maybe get to the top fitting to put a nut on it, but no way can I reach the bottom.

Probably use RTV as a glue/sealant.

Thoughts?

Thanks

Fred

I am guessing you are wanting to paint all of the plastic.
If yes, paint it all but a 1" vertical strip to retain level view.

Myself I would rig a hunk of metal roofing or a tarp or something to throw over it. Park it up under the barn overhang then lean-to some roofing metal over it.

They have bulkhead fittings that are just for you application. I used a wire to guid the fitting down into the hole than put the nut on the outside. I could hold the fitting from the center to get the nut started. Then just screw in a hoe barb. For the top a wire with a knot like end would work to pull that fitting in then start the nut again on the outside. The fittings should have a gasket with them to seal. I used a wire long enough to reach the top of the tank to slide the fitting on. The wire also went out the hole on the tank.

Just for your info, learned at pesticide update meetings, to check the integrity of your poly tank, take a magic marker and color a spot and look for spiderweb pattern, if it is there, then tank is not safe. Also take a Louisville Slugger and have at it. If it survives, you're good to go. You don't want to have a tank full of chemical rupture by surprise.

Can you just get a nice canvas tarp or cut one out of an old semi trailer tarp or build some kind of treated plywood box or wood box with some pole barn metal. If you paint it you will never be able to see the level without a sight tube and my eyes aren?t near that good. It?s all about what works best for you but no way I would paint it if it were mine

I have a smaller poly 3 point tank. On my 2nd one, UV light got the first one. I wrap mine in a tarp when I'm not using it.
