Would like to know if i should use a thread sealant on the brass elbow and shut off going into the carb on the pony engine. When I took apart there was no evidance off any sealant on them.Carb was rebuilt so inlet threads nice and clean.

If you use anything, make sure it is rated for gasoline immersion.
You should not need anything as copper tightened properly and carefully will usually seal well. Over tightening is as bad or worse that not tight enough.

Don't you just hate it when you turn a fitting to just the right angle for the steel tubing to align, and you have the feeling that the fitting isn't tight yet, and yet another full turn will make it too tight?
Aaarrgh !
Seal-All sealant is impervious to fuels.
