Poor Design (not tractor)

If you are thinking of selling that 2015 Grand Cherokee, this might be a good time to do it. Stellantis sales are slowing to the point where they have close to a full year of unsold inventory in many of their models. Industry rumor has it the company will soon be cutting the list price of unsold inventory by 20, 35 and up to 60 percent depending on the model year to move unsold iron. Admittedly, Stellantis inflated their list prices way beyond what was realistic, but the drastic price cuts of unsold new vehicles could crash the values of used models too.

Our whole economy is in this condition. The finance industry and gov't knows it's a bubble. They're just hoping that it's made of some kind of new pop-proof polymer... lol

And if it doesn't pop, we pretty much end up with a caste system like India used to have...

There ARE some cars that are inexpensive, easy to change light bulbs, all sorts of room in the engine compartment to fix anything...easy to maintain. The Mitsubishi Mirage....

But most people wouldn't be caught dead driving one... no status...

We get what we deserve, mostly.
I like your answer. Status. Guys pay 80,000 for a pickup but is "not trying to impress anyone. "

Only problem is it looks like every other 80,000 pickup on the road , and he wonders why no one walks up to him at the gas station and tells him what a cool truck he has.

Hint: they're all three pumps to the west , flocked around a nice'68 C30, with 5 yards of topsoil on back.

Just a lowly 2500.00 truck, still on the job.

That the light bulbs can be easily changed in.

Well... status... AND safety... not that the Mirage was an unsafe car. With good tires, it held the road fine... but when you're the only 1800lb vehicle in a a sea of 6000 pound SUVs and Club Cab trucks... you learn to drive defensively... lol

So... there IS a funny story here...

We used to have a big, ugly, but very useful Ford E350 cutaway van. Loved that thing. We hauled everything everywhere for our farm with it. It had the 7.3 liter diesel... anyway... my wife is at the convenience store with it...getting a snack before she goes to the farm...

She walks across the lot, past the pumps, where there's a guy with a Harley fueling up.

He looks at her and then at the Harley... says... "Don't act like you're not impressed..."

She smiles... and continues into the store...

When she comes back out, he's still there talking with his buddy on another Harley. She gets in the E350... drives over by the pumps on her way out of the lot... pauses by the Harley dudes... rolls down the window.... looks DOWN at them from the seat... says...

"Don't act like you're not impressed..." juices the accelerator a couple of times to let the big diesel make a little noise... drives away

That's a woman we should ALL have!

Would have been funnier if she had the exhaust pointing his way and rolled a little coal on him!

It was a 2016 right? If it was ready for scrap in 8-ish years and only 200,000 miles, even in NY state, there's a reason nobody drives them and it has nothing to do with "status." They're straight-up junk out of the box.
It was still drivable. The car never left me stranded. I could have put some money into it and sold it for a few grand. But I didn't need to. It didn't owe me anything.

I sold it for cheap to pass on the economy... so somebody could get a cheap starter car. I would wager someone will get another 100k out of it with some wheel bearings and such.

I don't have a 65 mile commute each way, and my wife wanted something bigger that was more comfortable to ride in. So we bought a used truck (with easy to change light bulbs, lol).

The selling price is no reflection of whether the car was "junk"... just the opposite, it was so cheap to own, it was paid for... I could practically give it away without feeling like I lost money on the previous 8 years of ownership.

Years ago we had a 450 gallon water tank on the flatbed pickup. The bottom drain valve was three inches from the bottom so there was no way to totally drain it with out picking up the tank . Bad design? Yes! Whoever built it didn't have a clue. Costs of the finished product tops everything , the frustrations the buyer endures doesn't matter. Are there bad engineers? Yes but there's A Lot of behind the scene stuff i don't know when it comes to engineering.
