porter cable

I could not predict if you should open it up or not, based on the fact that I know nothing of your experience with air tools/repair. But there are parts available if it is newish, from Porter Cable. And probably on line if older. Call the store and determine if they even do repairs, or just send it somewhere else. Jim

Had a brad nailer do that.

Found a crumbling urethane seal inside.

Was able to find parts online, think it was one of the aftermarket suppliers. Cheap and easy fix.

You probably won't find any repair shop that will even look at it. They only want to do commercial duty, expensive tools. It would cost more than replacing it, if you found anyone willing!

There are 2 PC finish nailers. I have the 2 1/2 version. Mine did the same thing. I opened up the top and there was a large white plastic part that was in pieces. I replaced it and it worked fine. But a short while later it began double firing. Ive been told that is a trigger issue. I cant remember for sure but I think I spent about $30-40 for the plastic part. So Ive been reluctant to invest more in the gun at this point. Considering a new one maybe cordless. It was a great gun until that part broke. I particularly like the ability to shoot 2 1/2 nails. A lot of the guns only go to 2.

It would need to be re-built. I used to have one that the drivers kept breaking off. They were expensive to replace so I trashed the gun. I've marked Porter Cable off my list of tools to buy.

Pretty easy to work on. more than likely the bigger whiteish soft plastic piece at the top. Mine done the same same thing. Think I got an after market one from Amazon.

Todays Porter Cable is not the PC of our father era. It's low grade stuff on par with HF. I'm done with the brand!

If it's an older one, before the PC brand went down the drain then it's worth rebuilding. My FN250B had the same failure and <$20 in seals solved the issue. I even 3D printed a workable (small leakage but the gun worked properly) seal in TPU while waiting for the proper seal to arrive.
