That is a question best asked to your doctor. Go get checked out.

already been there, not much luck yet, next step looks like mayo. been several chest ex-rays, heart tests, still find nothing. just like you
sitting on me all time.

Been dealing with that since boot camp. I have acid reflex so take a pill every night for it and have for decades now. The one I take at night is Famotidine. I also have another one that if I am having extra problems I take right before eating and it is Pantoprazole

A healthy dose of baking soda dissolved in water does it for me. It will neutralize acid but if you are taking all those potentially organ damaging drugs long term I would go to a specialist or a different doctor. If the problem is mostly when you lie down you may have Hiatal Hernia. IMO

Years ago I had what is called a fluoroscope done where you swallow a fiber optic thing so they can look for problem not fun but found my problem

I used to eat two rolls of Rolaids a day, I finally started taking a Prilosec pill every morning, that stopped the constant burning. My new Doc asked me to change to Emaprozole, and it works great. If I forget to take it, I soon am reminded by my stomach. Occasionally I need to take an antacid, but not too often.

i have been to er room at least three times last year and twice year before, every time they find nothing, the very last time just little over month ago, they did exrays , mri, and have found nothing, chest lungs totally clear, heart is fine, blood presssure was only little high when i was ther but it soon came down as i was there about four hrs. just was a doc last thursday and he put on another med but it makes me so loppy and dizzy can not work, its the 5th med he tried they have all be classified as depression meds but can help with acid being told, side effects are terrible, at this type right now i am off all meds and back to having terrible chest pressure and burning. i am sure hoping the new year will bring end to this. suppose be headin to mayo last we talk doc, i would rather go iowa city instead anybody have better luck one way or the other

I have been hospitalized 5 times in the past with chest pain and each time it was diagnosed as GERD. So I take a daily pill to control the acid. A proton pump inhibitor. It has helped me.

If it is acid reflux it will change in intensity with what you eat. If so, an acid reducer such as OTC pills like famotidine (Pepsid AC) and generic will tell you that it is. I recommend a prescription from a gastro doc rather than self medication. If those make no difference, more diagnosis is needed (change Doctors) Jim

Mine was extreme for quite a while before my appendix burst. I was OK for a year or so after that, but it came back. I've been on Prilosec every since. My daughter in law is a pharmacist. She said that as long as I've been on it, if it hasn't killed me yet, it most likely won't.

Generic prilosec, Omeprazole Delayed Release Orally Disintegrating Tablets 20 mg, Acid Reducer

Been taking Omeprazole for decades. One each morning.

I take a 20mg Omeprazole every day. Once in a great while (very rare) if I need an anti acid tablet I chew two Gaviscon extra strength. I feel Gaviscon is the best anti acid tablet on the market. I have delt with acid reflux for years. Been to the doctor for it. The Omeprazole works great for me. Heartburn and acid reflux is nothing to overlook. It can create serious problems.

If your doctor or a specialist can't help try a more natural approach .
Frozen yoghurt desert for a start . A variety that has carageen seaweed in it as a base . It is an emulsifier and thickener that stop gastric acid from rising in the esophagus at night when you lie down to sleep.
That is a mechanical solution , at the same time start taking a probiotic supplement , lactobacillus acidophilus is one , there are others , even Yakult from the supermarket works well . Real farm yoghurt and small amounts of homemade goat cheese also help .
The whole idea is to get a colony of worthwhile acid reducing bacteria resident in your gut .

Have a doctor give you a good checkup. It could be the warning sign for an heart attack. The rescue squad found my friend dead of an heart attack with two Tums in his mouth

just came from doc last week . he put me on trazodone hcl 1/2 tablet so far all it has done is he!! headache, tired weaker yet and upset stomach, going call back him tomorrow seeing double again, dizzy

Get checked. If you cannot work with it that is pretty bad. Acid reflux uncheck will lead to barrets exotic as which leads to cancer. Also it is difficult to determine hitch are heart chest pain and what is acid reflux. I have been dealing withit for 40 years.

does your chest get heavy and burning when you get your spells, thats why i keep thinking having heart attack, i have been in emergency alost on first name basis and heart lungs always check out fine and no blockages. been he!!! to say least last couple years fighting this.

just at doc last week ,thinking of heading to mayo. today at this typing its like a got weight on my chest and he!! burn. really taking my work ability out of me.got year left on the house yet. had a special look at heart couple week ago all looks fine there, lungs were all clear on 6 different looks, was on treadmill few months back could not find anything . this all started when i had high levels of formaldyhyde when putting house remodel back, thought was having heart attack went er and all was fine in that area, was told some allergies reaction will send same symptom as having heart attack.. found high levels in new floating floor,so took house all back to studs and got it out after months of fans running. now doing house all over again put having thes syptoms again

I knew an old school lumber sales man that built a house in the 1990s with no glue involved in any building material. I dont know the reason for doing it except that he could

I eat 2 or 3 dill pickle chips. Like what you would put on a hamburger. That works the best for me. I suspect it's the dill and vinegar that is the actual cure.

Been fighting digestive problems since the good old Army fed us salt water and salt tablets in 55. I wasn't smart enough like some of the guys to make it look like they were taking the tablets but just getting rid of them. Good little soldier.

Have had duodenal ulcers diagnosed, gall bladder taken out and eating some kind of antacid for many many years. But, little over a year ago, nothing would help the pain I came up with.

Went in to ER , had a cat scan. Claimed it was inflamed pancreas. Pain right under the rib cage. Liquid diet and pain killers for a couple days. Was ok. This fall, same thing. No ideas why it happened but it had me on my knees for a while when waiting for them to call as they sent me home last time.

I hate pain killers as wife is on everything you can throw at her with all her problems but I had to give in and hunt up what I took last year. Took care of it . But, I don't like th e sound of pancreas problems very much.

Ztrmower reading all your post on this I don't see one time you mentioning your doctor giving you anything like a proton pump inhibitor or any other drug that's for acid reflux. I have had this problem since I was a teenager and never was prescribed a antidepressant drug. No I'm not a doctor but it just sounds strange.

No not really, mine just burned like crazy. That feeling like a weight on your chest is reason for further checking, That's one of the symptoms of heart problems.

I never used to get heartburn, but I do get it now. Mine seems to be caused by eating foods with a lot of sugar in them. Reduce the sugar intake and then the heartburn goes away.

I had a similar problem years ago. Doctors, doctors and doctors. Cardiologist put a monitor on me for a few days and then put me on metaprolol because my heart was speeding up, slowing down, skipping, etc. It helped but didn't stop it. A little later right hip and back started hurting more and more. More doctors, mri's and specialist. Finally a neurosurgeon visit for nerve tests and everything else. No luck so he has me walking around the office and on the second lap I'm limping so bad I can hardly walk. Back to the mri image for half an hour and he found a blockage in the artery to my right leg. That led to a few fem bypass and a byproduct of that was the pressure on my heart was gone. You may have something else going on but it wouldn't hurt for them to check your circulation.

My bad case of heartburn was Non-Hodgkins type Lymphoma Cancer, so bad that it had almost closed off my digestive tract, besides puffing up almost every Lymp I had in my body. That fact caused the stomach acid to stay in my stomach and eat away at the liner.

25 miles from my farm is a cancer center adjacent to a local hospital. Cancer work was a sideline at the hospital there for about 10 years but a new cancer facility was paid for and built via a sizeable donation from a local farmer whose wife died of cancer and he wanted to do something in her honor for the rest of the folks with the disease.

I have pictures of the growth taken with the tube they run down your esophagus. What a mess. The doctor told me that she was going to either kill me or the cancer. I won. In March 2013 I was diagnosed and between then and September I had 6 each 4.5 hour chemo sessions. They weren't all that bad, boredom waiting the time out was the worst part of it. Wasn't any pain involved. Worked a lot of crossword puzzles, easily done sitting in an easy chair. The next day I was back working the farm like nothing had happened.

In 2018 I had my 5th year checkup and she turned me out to pasture. She said you're good to go and I have been. Amazing that I got that kind of performance on what could have been a terminal cancer just 25 miles from my farm in a town of about 25,000 and Medicare (insurance for which I pay premiums) and my retirement insurance (for which I don't have to due to my time with the company) covered all but about $1500 (my deductible) of a $150k+ price tag....dem chemo meds tain't cheap. Sure nice to see an insurance company (Medicare in particular) negotiate lower rates and go to bat for you.

Mark,

I am glad to hear about your good outcome, and I'd like to know the name of your hospital. Not all hospitals are that conscientious.

Doctor Shreedhara is the manager and active practitioner of the chemo portion of the hospital; my MD. They also have a radiation department in the same cancer center but not part of her responsibility.
