posting photos

I know this question has been asked a hundred times, but how do you attach a photo to a submission? Walk me thru, 'cause I'm only barely computer literate......I tried a few key words in the archive search and wasn't finding directions.
Maybe it would be a good thing to have the directions on one of the sidebar categories for future reference.

It is easier to post pictures than explain how it is done. Most everybody needs help learning the steps to post a photo. Some of us need practice explaining the process, so here comes one of my practice secession. Bear with me.

The steps below should work on this site’s modern view. If you don’t know how to switch between the modern and classic views, post back.

1.You will need to have your photo hosted somewhere on the internet and know the url (link) needed to recall it. If you need help with this step post back.

2.Open a [b:dd0dbfdc65]new topic[/b:dd0dbfdc65] or [b:dd0dbfdc65]reply box[/b:dd0dbfdc65].

3.Under the [b:dd0dbfdc65]Subject Box[/b:dd0dbfdc65] you will find nine small boxes. Click on the second one from the right. It is labeled [b:dd0dbfdc65]Img[/b:dd0dbfdc65].

4.Look closely and you will find that the letters img surrounded by brackets has appeared in the message box. Paste the photo url starting next to the right bracket. [i:dd0dbfdc65][b:dd0dbfdc65][color=red:dd0dbfdc65]Note:[/color:dd0dbfdc65] [/b:dd0dbfdc65] [u:dd0dbfdc65]Be sure to leave no space between the bracket and the beginning of the url[/u:dd0dbfdc65].[/i:dd0dbfdc65]

5.Click on [b:dd0dbfdc65]Close Tags[/b:dd0dbfdc65] found under the box to the right of the Img box referred to in step 3.

6.Click the [b:dd0dbfdc65]Preview[/b:dd0dbfdc65] button. Your photo should appear.

7.Go back and add your message as you would normally. When you have everything as you want it, click the [b:dd0dbfdc65]Submit[/b:dd0dbfdc65] button.

We’ll all see your message and your photo. See, I told you it was easier done, than explained. :)

If you can not get your picture to show up, post back and make known the point at which you started having trouble.

John -- Do you know if there is a recommended maximum size of the photo being posted? By size I mean in terms of pixels -- such as 600 x 600? Or can you post a larger one (say) 1000 x 1000?

Some systems will reduce the photo anyway. I haven't tried one on YT yet, but have one or two I would like to post. (PatB)

Thanks for asking the question. I forgot to address the size issue with my post to sgtbull. I should have told him his photos need to be sized before they are uploaded onto the hosting site and that if he needs help with that step to post back.

Now to your size question:

Using the method, I tried to describe to sgtbull any size can be used. The size, as far as I know, is only limited by the camera taking the picture and/or the site hosting the picture.

I use 640 X 480 when I post. That seems to be kinda standard. My Windows XP resizer gets them down to that size with two mouse clicks. The size fits most computer screens without causing the viewer to have to scroll and I have a fighting chance to get the dialer-uppers to download them before they become bored waiting for long download.

There is no “recommended maximum size”, as far as I know. I am, by no means, an expert and, therefore, wouldn’t want to try to set a standard for size and sure wouldn’t want to set any limits. Some sites limit the size photo they will host. YT, in fact, does (I think it is a bandwidth issue). I preferred the 640 X 480 size to the smaller size limit that YT imposes, even when I was on dial-up.

You can also just right click a web-posted photo and copy the url form the "properties" label and paste that direct into the "Optional Image URL" below the message box. BTW, I use Photobucket to store my photos. It's a decent service. You can also upload them to this site in the "Tractor Photos, Vintage Photos, Implement Photos", etc. If you don't have too many to post on a regular basis, it will do the trick.

It is best to reduce them. Otherwise all the viewers are forced to scroll left & right to see the picture as well as ALL the text, even other posts in same thread. Bad.

500 -600 range or a little smaller seems about right.
