There have been several posts lately about crud in the tank. Fungi cannot live in diesel fuel, it lives in the water that is in diesel fuel in the tank. Ridding the tank of water gets rid of fungus. For decades I have added gas line de-icer which is an alcohol base. The water is absorbed into the alcohol which goes through the fuel system and is burned up in the combustion chamber. gas line de-icer Once all the water is gone there is no way for fungus to live and thrive. There are other name brand products that do the same job but cost a lot more than a bottle of gas line de-icer. Crud in a gasoline tank is a different story, it can be from old fuel that has sat in the tank for years and has settled into a varnish like goo. Cleaning the tank completely is the best solution. Tank off is best, brake cleaner will help dissolve the crud or a carb cleaner will work too. Best of luck to everyone with this problem. Always use fuel stabilizer if fuel is going to sit more than a few months.
