Potential 641 purchase

I'm going to look at a '59 641 tractor that the owner wants to sell for $1000. He says that the lift doesn't work. He claims that everything works and it has like new tires. What are some of the possible fixes might I expect to repair the lift. Is there a lift problem that I should consider a deal breaker? He says that $1000 is his bottom price.

If it runs good - Buy it!

Will need symptoms to offer lift repair advice. Short of a new cylinder, hydraulic repair parts aren't terribly expensive.

Both my Jubilee & 2 cyl 2000 had the same problem when I bought them. I had to pull the cover & clean the unloading valve (I hope I am calling it by the right name!) Doesn't take long & not too difficult using a block & tackle if that's the problem,

Went to see it and decided to buy it. It had a few typical issues but started easily. The tires were like new. It's like buying tires with a tractor attached.

Good tractor and good price.
Hydraulic top cover and internals are nearly identical to an 8N.
Pump is different but still easily rebuildable and not expensive to do. But I doubt it's the pump. They are bullet proof.
Try the easy things first.
Check the reservoir for oil. There are 3 compartments. Tranny, hyd reservoir, rear end.
Then bleed the pump.
On the side of the pump there's an allen head plug.
With the engine at low idle, crack the plug and let it spit all the air out till you get clear oil. Then retighten the plug.
See what you get then. Catch the oil in a pan.
Don't wear your blue suede shoes.
I always thought that live hydraulics is the ONE feature that seperates the men from the boys on these old Fords.
