Power Steering

I am in the process of fixing some leaking power steering seals. I removed the steering worm and housing but I am not sure if i need to mark the location of the steering gear before i remove it? Is it timed some how with the worm gear? Some of the sims are messed up on the Steerring worm and housing should I get new one from deere or Measure the thickness and make them?
thanks for any help on my first power steering repair any other word of wisdom.

I mark the sectror gear, just so that I can re-inmstall it 180* off. This gives a fresh surface and takes out some of the play due to wear. It is not timed to the worm. Shims are shims, and you can buy them or cut your own just the same, but you'll need to set the worm end play at the end cap, then use the shims behind the actuator valve housing to set the mesh of the worm to the sector.

I would get the 2 cylinder power steering manual if I was you. I just finished the power steering on one of my 630's and it can take some work to get it right.
