Power steering

I agree with old. WD45s had optional power steering, so my guess is that power steering was available from the first series one to the last series four. Kip

That"s a tough one- might need some dealer input. My Series III has power steering, but that doesn"t prove standard or option. The Series I that I bought in "72 when I started farming....can"t remember if it had PS, but I kind of think so. Traded it in on a JD 4430 in 1980.

Dad's was New in 1957 and I thought it was the 1st year for PS..
Don't expect the PS on a WD-45 to have enough power to turn the front wheel (if you have a loader on it)...pick up a halfway decent load and it Stalls, making turning even Harder than Manual Steering...
BTDT...
BUT, for general use on rough ground..it is real NICE..!!! (It won't Break your arm!!)..

Power steering was optional on all D17s. Series 1 and 2 had the pump as part of the governor/distibutor assembly. Series 3 and 4 had pump mounted under the hood driven by a separate belt. My 58 has the early version.

P/S was an option on all D17's. The pumps changed a few times. Early gas engines they are in the governor housing, later they went to a belt driven pump. Early diesels had the pump mounted on the back of the generator. Later they also used a separate belt driven pump.
