Power stteering

I have a UK 135 straight axle tractor with the 3 cyl diesel engine. The power steering has a massive leak from the steering box. I have some mechanical skill as I have worked on cars and trucks since I was 15 (I am 78 now) but I have very little MF experience since I just bought the tractor and have only serviced it. That's how I found the leak as I filled the ps reservoir and watched it leak out as soon as I started the engine. My question is how difficult is it to reseal the unit and what are my chances of doing so successfully? Are any special tools necessary?

Hello Evan, hope you are all keeping your heads down over there. I did look at this one to see if there was anything that I could add. Reomack seemed quite specific in saying that the leak was coming from the steering box suggesting that it might have what you might call the integral 'American ' steering box. Perhaps Reomack can clarify whether it is this type or has the spool assy at the top of the steering column. MF 135s destined for the UK market all had the column mounted spool but anything destined for export may have had a mix'n match.

On my tractor The PS control valve is at the bottom of the steering column. There is a power cylinder secured to the bottom of the housing with cap screws. I suspect the leak is from the seal on the piston rod going on to the power cylinder or else the seal on the steering shaft where it enters the steering valve.

If my last post wasn't clear maybe this will help. My PS set up uses individual cylinders, one on each side at the front. lines go prom the valve to each cylinder.
