Power-Trol will not go down

Guys, I have a 47 B that I put a 3 point on. I never really tried to use it until today when I went to hook up the rotary mower. The 3 point will raise, but won't lower. What's going on? I opened the set screw on the left side as per the owners manual for rock shaft operation.

Maybe the rate of drop screw in the center bottom of that control valve housing needs some adjusting ?

May be low on oil. I had an A that would not lower the cultivators and turned out it was low on oil. It has to go all the way up in order to come back down. Im sure others will chime in

I second what Mike M. said. Allen, what you adjusted was the meter-screw on the side of powr-trol, that sets the rate of speed for lift.. You need to adjust the throttle valve screw, located at bottom-center of the powr-trol box.. This adjusts the rate of drop of the lift arms with a load on them.. Could be out of adjustment to let the arms to go down.. Take off cap, loosen lock nut, and screw in to increase drop.. This adjustment is in the Operators Manual under 'Adjustment of Powr-Trol for Rockershaft Operation'.....

The throttle valve on the back of Powr-Trol adjusts the rate of slow drop. It has no effect on fast drop. If moving the control lever all the way back doesn't make the 3-point go down you have another problem. Is the return hose fully connected to the PT? Try unhooking the top link and see if the 3-point will lower.

I'll second Mark's post.

When I first saw this thread it made my think back a couple years ago when I had the plow (model 55 ABH) hooked onto my '51 B and it didn't lower most of the time. I knew the oil was low but at that time it was leaking into the rear end and I didn't think low oil would cause it to not lower. Last fall I made sure it was full of oil and using the same plow and lift cylinder I didn't have any issues. After reading Mark's post I'm thinking low oil was my problem. If low oil does in fact cause this issue I'd love to see an explanation for it because it makes zero sense to me.

My hydraulic couplers are plumed into the RH side of the power-trol. So it's using the same circuit as the rockshaft. Not sure if that makes a difference.

It's a really common problem to have power-trol oil leaking into the rear end on these things. PTO shaft packings and the rockshaft lift cylinder housing gasket are the most common places for this to happen.

Got it figured out. Thanks for the help. I thought the operating valve was bottomed out because I couldn't screw it in any further. Of course the tractor was running in hopes it would lower. I shut the tractor down and low and behold I was able to screw the set screw all the way in. Started the tractor again and was able back out the screw to adjust the rate of drop. Works great now. Apparently while the tractor is running, there's to much pressure to screw in adjustment screw. Thanks again guys!!!!!!!!
