power valve initial setting Ford 800

no sir, I just need to see if the motors a good runner. I seem to be having a not getting enough fuel issue to just sit there and idle. I had it running before when it had a stuck valve. I got the valve free and think it will clear up once I get it up to operating temps.

Remember that the governor won't open the throttle without a load.

I got it running but the carbs flooding. I'm going to pull it and put a good one on it temporarily. Motor don't smoke so I'll keep it.

That would be quite a trick to make an updraft carb flood, LOL. Your carb is NOT flooding. Give the details.

uestion: does gasoline running out of carb onto the ground constitute a flooding carb?

Excess gas coming out of carb is because it is an updraft intake system. Gas that gets sucked out of the carb by the intake vacuum but does not make its way into the cylinders has to go somewhere.

(quoted from post at 16:21:40 07/12/23) Well, it's runnin out and on the ground. top of carb where bowl gasket is gets wet first.
iquid level in bowl is set by float/needle valve assy and is 1/4 inch below the referenced gasket, when all is well.

NO!!! How can gas flood a carb when it is free to run onto the ground. Sean is correct for probably 95% of the occurrences of gasoline running out of the intake. Most of us prefer to go after and to recommend the fast easy most likely fix over the time consuming unlikely one.

Sounds to me like you have a bad needle/seat, grit keeping the needle from closing, or a bad float.

Just FYI, the updraft carb can flood. If the needle and seat do not close properly for any number of reasons, there is a small vent on the bottom of the carb throat that is supposed to allow excess fuel to drain out the bottom, onto the ground. Over the years, that vent gets plugged up. Then the leaking fuel collects in the carb. If you have your air intake hoses clamped as you should, the fuel cannot leak out there. The fuel will continue to collect until it reaches the choke shaft, where it can leak out. At that point, there is so much fuel sitting in the throat, if you try to start the tractor, it will suck up all of that fuel and it will flood the engine.

No need to ask me how I know this!!! :)

Great tool JMOR. I'm going to make on of those for my 850. Thanks for posting. Is that a valve in the bowl vent so that it can be full time installed?
