Power windows question

Old Roy

2001 Buick Lasaber expecting the front power windows to be a problem first if one should go , but within 2 months of each other, the rear windows won't go up or down My step daughter had the one blocked with a board-- dropped the car off here last night

I can pull the window up by hand , but it won't stay
What parts should I expect to get that may be broken -- yes the motor does run on both sides .

They run about $100 each, I have replaced both fronts and one rear in my 2000 LeSaber Limited.
The plastic roller usually goes bad. (My $0.02 worth. jal-SD)

Old Roy,
Heres a link to Jc Whitney for your window regulator lift motor assembly. You are not alone in that boat, below is a series of complaint dealing with your same problem.Hope you can get it fixed and working.Looks like Buick made a extreeem foul up, or maybe they figure it's reoccuring job security.By the way Buick&deere is right. Hope this helps.
Regards,Lou & Victor

My left front window goes down ok, but is slow or no comming up. If i let it sit for 20 minutes, it will then roll all the way up, but, in a quick rain-storm--prepare to get wet. Let it sit and later it will go up! Maddening! Especially for an old auto mech. 95 Century.
Others work ok.

Makes for the want of the good old days of HAND CRANK WINDOWS. Old Roy and others are having problems with their window assemblies. Our 1992 G M C Yukon (passenger side) Window motor gave out, but was repaired by My Son. Works O.K. But I have a feeling it will give out again. Dealer Item we think, or it was when we inquired 2 years ago. No aftermarket motors were available at that time. OH BOY. FOR THE DAYS OF HAND CRANKING WINDOWS AGAIN. Regards LOU.

Yes those are a bad design. The cables fray/rollers break ? and get tangled up. I worked at a GM dealer and felt sorry for the owners of those cars. It did seem like once one went not too much longer another would go. Very expensive when the dealer changes them.
Google them as you can find them ALOT lower price then GM. I forget who had them cheap.

Lou, That's exactly why when I bought my 03 Dakota Quad cab I told the dealer I didn't want power windows or power locks. Plain Jane for me. I got tired of replacing window regulator's and power lock solenoids when I worked for a Dodge dealer. Simple is the only way to go. That's why I like old tractors. Gerard

The car has AC, right?

When you get them fixed to the point they are closed, pull the fuse.

End of (future) problems.

BTW, IMHO, in a modern car with AC, the power windows are more of a toy for the "kids" than a necessity.

I'm going to block them up and I filed a complaint in it I said I was going to duct tape them up and write on the windows with a paint pen warning others of this inexcusable problem.

Keep track of those bills you guys paid in case of recall-- it may be worth your while.

One poster on the complaints had almost $500.00 in the two back windows alone with a garage doing the work.

Well, the window regulator assembly costs about $55 bucks on ebay. Just put in my 3rd one on my '01 Buick Century rear passenger side. Only takes about 30 minutes after you have put your first one on. Still a pretty good vehicle and putting on a new regulator is way cheaper than trading cars. Just my 2 cents worth. Your mileage may vary....

ASE GUY, I feel the same way regarding Pwr.widows,locks,seats,etc. Many people ,not just dealers, look at you as if you're crazy when you say you don't want your new vehicle equiped with this stuff.

It's not just the Buicks. I've replaced a bunch of them on my daughter's cars. Her friends like to play with her toys. Those windows get a lot of workout with all the fast food drive-thrus and dragging main with all the talking and moon shooting they did with each other.

Neighbors car had the rear window motors replaced 5 tomes (he kept the motors each time) When it quit the next time he asked me if I could tell why the motors went bad. I looked and found that the regulators on both doors had been bent and mangled by some """mechanic""" I took the tracks out and fabricated a stronger support, brazed it on and put it back together. I then tested all the motors he had in hand. Every one was as good as new. They were claiming warranty work by replacing motors. What a rip. Jim

I work in a body shop for a living. The problem is weight. Every thing has to be light= junk. All makes and models across the board are having problems with window regulators, hand or power same regulator. We put in over 200 regulators last year and there is no end in sight. until they get away from the cable and easy break nylon glides this problem will continue.
