What is the correct color code for john deere yellow on a unstyled tractor using PPG omni MTK. #80186 ,81512 or 82009 . It looks like #46180 is the green. Thank You

i don't understand why people want to use anything but jd paint. its good paint that holds up well, but what ever you do i'd use the jd buff primer under any yellow. it makes the yellow cover quicker and beter and is real slick and a very nice yellow after wards.

Hey -- don't get caught up in the paint war -- it is a slippery slope. Everybody has their favorite, and if the paint they like has been good for them, they will recommend it to everyone who asks and to a few who don't! I've used both Deere Paint and Dupont, and liked the result of both. Being fearful about the "shade of the fade", I fell back to Deere brand. I kind of think that if you can buy really bad paint, it won't be on the market long -- that is to say, there are several great paints out there.

My painting days are over, and so for me -- the war is over. I will say, however, I've never read so many inconclusive statements about paint as have lately been posted; about Yellow for John Deere tractors in particular. Yellow paint doesn't cover like Green and so we see a host of grief statements about yellow. The thing there is to be patient and just know it may take more paint than you thought -- to get the deep and glistening shinny wet look we all strive for.

Far too many folks are seeking a quick solution -- and hope to find it here rather than preparing some scrap pieces and doing a few test shoots. There is no better way to learn than by doing. Once again, patience and persistence are two qualities that, if practiced, will bear good fruit. Have a Great One! (PatB)

thanks for the advice pat. i found a tetter totter for kids to ride on at the local school once. it was broken up and had been there for years. i took it home and welded it up, replaced the borads on it. it took me 6 days to paint the blame thing. 3 days on one side of the borad and three on the other with jd yellow paint on wood. seems like i did put a coat of primer on first too. one kid gets on on end and the other on the other. its made in an arch so theycan rock back and forth. all the kids love it. problem comes when the people who remember them get on them a shows that i carry it to and i have to beat them off so the kids can ride them. one day a little boy came in my trailer, i show a 26 foot long trailer full of old farm stuff and haul my tracotr in it too, and wanted to know how many kids cold ride on it. i said well there is three boards on it so three can ride it ok. i thought a minute and went out and looked and there was 5 kids on it. must have done a good weld job huh.

I use the MAE 81512 A. I could send you some photos if you like. I noticed your email is open, and will do so.
