here's a rundown of a good custom baling job:
3 haybine guards: $27
1 tube of grease: $2
20 gallons diesel: $60
6 bundles of square baler twine: $200
tire repair on the ford baler in case I need the old beater: $11
Getting a check for $2425 and not touching one of the 2425 idiot cubes: PRICELESS!!

NW Arkansas. Dollar a bale is to cut rake and bale soeone elses hay. Hay would probally sell for about $3 this year.

Sounds like it was a good job! Good on ya!

Out here, three bucks is startin' to sound like bargain basement prices.

Arkansas you say . . . Hmmmm.

Hmmm, so far I have about $850 in parts and labor, about $120 in gas, $2,100 in a new wagon deck and an EZ Trail wagon, $120 in twine and I've baled about 1400 bales. Well at least I'm not making payments on anything. Got about 800 worth in the windrows so hopefully it won't rain tomorrow.

Our hay down here is OVER $5.25 a bale at the local feed store and that's for the CHEAP stuff...
People around here would snap up someone comming in at say... $4.75 a bale!

We get $110 a ton for custom work. 50 lb bales. We use two IHC 46 balers and keep the NH 78 for doing our friends hay its a little larger bale. 60 to 80 lb. people don't like them to much.
Next year will be different it could go up or down will have to see what the market is. I'm thinking up if its like the last two years.
You can't make money at $1 a bale anymore.

PS always count your owns bales the kids said this load we 48 bales. They can't count past what fingers and toes they have without a calculator.

i paid neighbor le roy a dollar a bale he cut raked and baled it.
he also sold some of his own for $3 a bale. he put it in barn took it out and drove 5 6 miles one way to deliver it i think he didn't get enough.
i wonder what would be a fair price to have him get on wagon and i would put it in my barn he wouldn't touch a bale.

I rent my 3A to a neighbor with sheep. This spring he stopped by and asked if I would spread some "pasture mix" fertilizer on it to boost the production. The only mix in the cart was the mixture of fine nitrate granules and large nitrate softball chunks. I spread it, then we got some nice rains. The grass got ahead of the sheep. So he asked if it was alright to have someone come cut, rake and bale the 3A. I said fine, no prob. I talked to him later and asked how it turned off, he said great! We got 4.5 big rounds off it, and the guy baling took it all in payment for the job?? Not too sure but I think the boy got the short end of that stick...

I read some negative comments, but I belive you should pat yourself on the back a few more times. I would be willing to take on a job like that any day.
