I have a bunch of stuff I am about to list on eBay, but don't have any idea what they might be worth. Any ideas what the following would be worth? (all come off a Ford 8N):

Original gauge kit - includes nice looking original proofmeter, original oil gauge and original loop-style ammeter. All were working when I took them off the tractor

Original light kit - includes both headlights (has the tract-o-lite stamp), work light, rear light, original wiring harness, work light bracket, both wing and round style brackets for the headlights.

Battery cover - original cover with decal (decal is in good shape). Cover was cut by prev owner to install front-loader, but you can't tell it was cut when installed on the tractor.

Any help on pricing would be much appreciated.

You will find out what your stuff is worth when some one hands you the money in exchange for the stuff. EBAY is an auction. If you don't know what it is worth, start it a $10. See if it sells.

Ebay lets you list "Buy it now" where you set the price and someone buys it at that price - end of deal .

You can list 50 items a month at Auction or Buy it Now with no fee if it does not sell , but it is a steep 10% on the sale price and 10% of the shipping price PLUS 2.9% if you take Paypal as payment .

You can list as a "Buy it Now or Best offer" and people can submit an offer for your consideration . Click the 30 day listing .

Best thing to do is watch what those items are listing for and see what they actually sell for . Take good pics because people do not generally buy a used item that may have undisclosed damage they can not see .

Be careful when calculating shipping . You can easily lose $10 from the box and packing adding extra weight .

Two types of buyers on Ebay , people that want it now and will pay more OR people wanting it cheap .

Ken been quite a while since I sold something on ebay....
with that said, let me get this clear, Fee's are 10% of sale price and 10% of shipping. Why is there 10% on shipping? E bay isn't shipping it for you.
Also why 2.9% if you take it as an PayPal payment? I thought E-bay wanted everyone to use Pay Pal. What other way is there to pay?

Too many people were selling for $.01 and $99.95 shipping .

You do not have to accept paypal if you would rather have a money order , cashiers check , or personal check , in a few days by mail . Personal checks are risky since your bank may credit your account but reverse the payment up to two weeks later if there is a problem on the other end .

Postal Money orders work good . I prefer to pay with Paypal because they do a good job if there is a problem / defect with your purchase . I have had a few problems that Paypal had to step in because the seller was stalling hoping I would give up .

I have been selling stuff I dont need and buying items I want . I had a 1987 Mitsubishi truck distributor that sold for $29.95 to somebody that could not find one any where else . The truck went across the scales 10 years ago and the dizzy was taking up space . In the last 3 months I have sold 250+ used motor parts and bought a lot of neat stuff .

Wal Mart , Advanced Auto , Petco and others take Paypal now . I bought 5qt jugs of 5W30 Full Synthetic Wal mart brand oil for $18 each , paid for them online and picked up at the layaway counter the next day . I was in and out in 5 minutes .

eBay "encourages" you to use PayPal so you get the protection
and they get those fees! Elon Musk didn't get rich from the lottery!

Not that there's anything wrong with PayPal, I like it, but if you
accept PayPal you pay a fee for using/accepting it.
As I understand it the amount of the fee depends on how much
you sell on eBay and your "status" as a seller. That's part of
why you see all the sellers begging for positive feedback.

I gladly pay the $.30 + 2.9% Paypal merchant fees because as part of that they are providing me with a credit/debit card processing service. For business accounts the percentage goes down only slightly (2.5%) if you gross over $10,000 per year. I seldom sell on eBay because of their fees and I have more orders than I can keep up with just from word of mouth. I do occasionally sell "junk" on a BuyItNow basis and I make sure the eBay fee is cooked into the BuyItNow price. Ebay gives you huge exposure.....

Seems like the exorbitant fees protect the buyer while the seller is penalized in having to pay them. But as TOH said its all in the price that the buyer pays.

Wondered why lately I see much more free shipping and buy it now offers.

All in all if you do your homework, the buyer can still come away wth some great deals not to mention with items that are hard to find.

Free shipping and buy it now gets you sales. I usually filter my searches with buy it now only and sort the results by price with shipping low to high. I refuse to deal with the auction process and some of the maniacs that bid like rabbits breed. I WILL NOT bid on a reserve auction unless somebody else has already met the reserve.

Ebay is a great source for machine shop tooling. If you are patient you can get used but super high quality and very expensive name brand tooling for pennies on the dollar.

Hi Tim - I can't seem to figure out how to email you directly, and I don't want to violate the "no advertising" rule of this site. That said, I do have a bunch of original 8N stuff that I would love to see go to someone who really wants it. I have a complete set of lights, and a bunch of other misc. lights and brackets. Also have the complete gauge set along with other misc gauges, including another proofmeter (that is in rather bad shape). How can we connect?

Royce I cant get my head wrapped around CLASSIC VIEW. What is the difference between CLASSIC and MODERN. Does one offer more than the other?
I always use MODERN since I notice the responses are not in timeline order in CLASSIC.

I think it's just personal preference. The classic view is just that.
It's what forums used to look like. The modern view moves the
replies into a chronological order as you noted. That confuses folks
who are used to using the classic view. "The posts jump all around."

There are a couple of differences between the two.
For example classic view, when it works right, shows you who
a poster replied to, modern view does not. It also shows you the
posters IP address. You can usually tell what part of the world
they're in from that.

In either case, if you don't see the person's email address as
being open, try the other view. It might be available there.

Yes confusing at times. I just emailed Dean from the MODERN side, and I received the email back to my email server as if I emailed my self. It wasn't a "copy to self"

Agreed. I know Chris works hard at keeping the two views
synchronized. Apparently the software in the background has
some trouble under certain circumstances.

For example, if classic view lets you post a disallowed word,
which it will do occasionally, that whole post will not be synched
to modern view. If it is the start of a new thread, all that shows
on modern is the subject line with nothing in the thread until
someone replies to it.
Interestingly, you can see the first line or two in the preview.
So in cases where this happens, you may not see all the replies
in a thread unless you are using classic view.

The original poster's message can only be read on classic view.

I haven't sold anything on ebay for 5 or 6 years because I got scammed by a buyer who used pay pal. They refunded his money then came after me. I refused to pay them.
I have a bunch of items I'd like to sell and think ebay is the best venue but wasn't able to make it work.

I won a low bid on a 5.0 HO cam . I went to pay and the guy did not accept paypal so I sent a postal money order . He had good feed back but I was a little nervous , but everything worked out fine .

I do get nervous selling used parts . It would be easy for the buyer to claim it was broken and send me his old part back . Paypal will issue funds on a claim when the tracking number shows the "package" has been returned , even if it was full of rocks .

I am not familiar with the system in regards to not using paypal .

You do not have to accept Paypal payments to list and sell on eBay. Many sellers will not accept Paypal for higher dollar items because of the bite Paypal takes. Vehicles are a prime example....

John -- Not sure why everyone's e-mail link (who has decided to make it visible) doesn't show up in Modern View. On this particular page I see e-mail buttons for TOH, greywolf, Royse, and Tall T but not for Tim. If you switch over to the Classic View of this Forum, and are logged in, you should be able to see an e-mail link for Tim.

Edit: Sorry about the duplicate answer here... I guess I had only read the first page of responses and missed where several folks had talked about the e-mail link 'quirks'....
