Probably going to sell it

My '73 S-O-S 4000 with a Woods 5' rotary mower and a Freeman loader has been sitting for over two years due to my lack of spare time to replace the power steering pump and choke cable. My property is now 90% cleared, which is why I bought it in the first place, and I have the replacement p/s pump and choke cable sitting here. I have had several people approach me out of the blue asking if it is for sale, some were strangers driving by who stopped just to ask, and a couple of folks I know who have asked as well, so if I get the spare time in the next month or two, I hope to get both installed and get it running and then sell it. I have a Kubota BX25D TLB that is big enough for anything I need to do now on my and my mother-in law's property next door, which totals less than 2.5 acres between them now that the heavy stuff is cleared. I will be sad to see her go, but I know she will be appreciated more by someone who needs that kind of size and horsepower. The problem will be finding the spare time to actually get the work done.

Didn't really post this as an ad to sell. Just expressing my thoughts as I go through the process of making the decision to part with it. Probably going to try to get $4500.00 for it once I get everything working properly, but if I can't come up with the time to do that, I will probably let it go for less.

In my experience it's been difficult not to be sentimental about machines, with the occasional exception of some that did not meet expectations. There is reticence to change/sell and remorse immediately after the act that only fades with time.

There was a 4000 SU S-O-S gas a year ago or so not too far away for a good price - I was sorely tempted, but coming off a poor year without much cash in my pocket, and so let it go.

There's a similar model, but 8X2 transmission, currently for sale nearby, but asking 2X the price of last years S-O-S. It's a nice tractor and possibly worth what he's asking, why is it the good prices are always too far away?

Anyway - good luck, whatever path you take - it'll work out fine and you're a little far for me to haul anyway...

My first thought on reading this was oh
no!
My second thought is I hope that selling
the tractor doesn't mean you will leave
this board.
You have been a real good help to a lot
of people here - myself included - so I
hope you'll stick around.
As to the tractor, sooner or later we'll
all have to make that decision.
And if your tractor hasn't been used in
2 years this might be the right time for
you. Far better to get it back in the
game, even if it's in someone else's
hands than leave it sit so long that it
becomes a hedgerow tractor, all tangled
in brush and vines that "ran when
parked".
