(quoted from post at 11:25:48 10/23/14) Wow, my first goof today! Thought I was looking at the right part in my FO4 manual, guess not. I know better than to think. It always gets me in trouble!
The plug is for the lower right side rail spring & ball, plug # 747238F if my eyes don't lie to me.
Appreciate the corrections!

I have to ask why you want to remove it? detent problems? The only times I have removed them is during transmission rebuild. All the ones I have taken out, came right out with BIG screw diver.

Had to replace 2nd gear on main shaft, and 2nd gear on countershaft. When I removed the countershaft rail, the ball rolled out and the spring remained, Since this is my first attempt at fixing an 8N, my learning experience is large!
I found a tool that works! It's called a IMPACT DRIVER. Just insert a bit, put it square on the screw or bolt, and give it a whack. You can drive a screw either in or out. First time I've ever used one, it was slick and fast!
Thank you all for your feedback!
