Problem with John Deere 5055E

Does anyone out there have one of these 5000 series tractors that can help me with a problem I am having. After backing up, shifting into forward and letting out the clutch I sometimes hear a “pop” that sounds like someone hit the ROPS with a hammer. Sometimes when I turn while backing up, then start forward again I hear 2 pops “pop pop”. Neither me nor my dealer can determine what is going on. Thanks very much for your help.

I would make sure the hubs are tight on the axle, and the rims are tight on the hubs. Even a tiny bit of movement will tend to cause the popping noise you are hearing.

Yes I agree - we have had this happen that customers brought in tractors, worried the MFWD Differential was self destructing -but it turned out that the wheel mating surfaces had lost the paint and now the wheel connections needed to be retorqued -your operators manual will have the specs

Our state highway department uses them for mower tractors.Last summer there were two of them setting along the road with the rear rim broke off laying on the ground. The centers broke out of the rims. They replaced the rims with a heavy spacer plate around the bolt holes.

Thanks Ray, MSM and Canadian Ken, I have torqued them with my air wrench, I guess maybe I don't have enough air pressure.
