Problem with tractor replacement seat for MF 295

Hello, I have previously been helped by you kind people with the 1984 MF 295 purchased a few months ago.

The previous owner put on a brand new replacement seat for me which I appreciated. However I cannot get the seat to move back and my knees are up against the steering wheel. It was fine but somehow moved while we were fixing the hydraulics problem.

There is a chromed rod underneath which looks like it would unlock when lifted but no dice. Cannot find an instruction book online or a video - probably because it is so simple ha ha.

This seat is an S935.

There are two or possibly three bolts underneath holding it to the tractor and they are almost impossible to remove. The front bolt was really long and is out. The rear bolt sticks up has binding nuts which I can barely touch. At worst I could force a grinder wheel in to cut but it would wreck the seat and possibly leave a severed bolt to be drilled out. You can see part of the nut in the bottom photo although I have been working on it from the back of the seat.

Is the lever that unlocks the sear hitting that hydraulic line before it moves far enough to actually unlock the seat? It looks like you have to raise the pin it's hooked to to unlock the seat. You may have to bend the handle down to allow enough movement to pull that pin all the way up.

I agree with Dave. It appears that the release lever is not engaging/disengaging. It also appears that the seat is in the fully back position. You need to move it forward to get at the mounting bolts/nuts. Once you get it off, these one fits all seats often need a spacer such as some rectangular steel tubing.

Agree. These one size fits all don't don't fit all without some modification. I had to drill some new holes for the mounting bolts and put a spacer in front or the seat would have been tilted down in front.

Thank you guys. It took three days of pondering about the best tools and hours of tinkering to get the bloody seat off. Which happened a few minutes ago.

Even then the seat would not move despite pulling up the lever. In frustration I bumped it on a table and suddenly it moved. Success.

No idea why a brand new seat didn't slide back and forth but at least I can now examine it.
Good suggestion though - even when the locking pin was raised nothing moved.

The result is I can test the slide movement, apply more grease, and when happy put the seat back on the tractor.

Such a small problem with real world results.

Grease might be good, but dry lube like PTFE based TriFlow or silicone spray might attract less dust and grit. Jim

You are removing that Adjustable wrench before you try moving the seat, aren't you?

An excellent update. The seat now moves freely with no problems because I did not free the locking pin. It is on a spring loaded arm under the seat and the arm only lifted it half an inch which appeared to be enough. Wrong. The pin is closer to an inch/25mm long and must be lifted high. Then the seat moves easily back and forward.

Phew.
