Problems with 715

My 715 combine stopped pulling itself. I felt a little jerk them it stopped. It sounds like the hydro is working. How do I determine if it's the trans or hydro? It had been working fine until then.

Sounds like a problem in the transmission. Those three speeds could have problems popping out of gear.

Check to make sure the coupler that connects the axle to the transmission didn't slide over or tare the splines out of it.

I've had that happen on 3 IH combines. 303 1440 and a 1660.

Easy fix.

Have you had problems with the coupler that connects the hyd.motor to the trans? It's looking more like that may be my trouble.

Nope never replaced that one.

I took the hyd.motor off the trans. The coupler is okay but the hyd, motor shaft doesn't turn with the engine running and operating the hydro lever. The other hydraulics work. Where should I look now?

I would look at the coupler that connects the pump to the motor. Or look to see if the input shaft on the pump is turning.

I spun the splines at the joint between the engine and hydrostat pump years ago. Some of the parts needed for the repair where not available new then. A trip to the salvage yard may be in order.

Where is best place to get a hydro motor repaired without breaking the bank?


Also my trans slipped out of gear and is hung up. Will I have to pull the cap off and pry the gears back?
