Made some progress on the 830 project. Got the com in and the engine attached.
Sunday was a warm and humid day here and since it was cold Saturday night there was a lot of condensation. The floor in the shop was wet with water from it and the entire tractor was dripping with it. So much so that water was dripping out the drain plugs. You can see the drops in this Pic.
Of course the whole trany was open and had no oil, so it was much worse, but I can see how the oil gets water in it.
Found the draft control rod had been repaired, and poorly too.
The one from the parts tractor was also broken so I bought a shoulder bolt and fixed one.
That should hold for a while.
One interesting thing from the service manual, the high/low shift fork is backward in the manual pic.
As you can see in this pic it shows the bolt head towards the right side of the tractor. It goes in that way and works fine til you put in the range shaft and gears, then it hits the high range gear. That means the fork assembly and top shaft gears need to come out to change it. So make sure thats right if you do this job.
Second thing missing from the book is the bottom bolt that bolts the engine to the com housing. You can see in this Pic the hole is bigger in the engine housing than the com housing.
I came to that and the bolt that came out is just a standard 1/2" bolt with washers on both sides. The small hole is 5/8 and the other much larger. I was sure that was wrong but there is nothing in the service manual about that. The holes are for the western 830 com with the solid front axle where the yoke goes all the way to the back of the engine. That axle has a ball that bolts in there for the rear axle support.
There is nothing in the service manual or parts book that says what goes in there for the row crop tractor. I talked to Case nutty about it and his original just has a 1/2" bolt with washers on it also. Seems odd that case would do that to me.
Anyway, there are a few things left I can do on it, but I'm waiting on parts now. The rebuild kit for the 3pt cylinder has been back ordered but should be here this week. I also had to order more bearings for the axles, I thought I found some at a local supplier, but they were not correct, so I ordered 3 more from John Saeli. The original bearing number is 495AS, the ones I found were 495A. I thought they would fit, but the inside was a few thousands smaller. So when those parts get here I can finish it. May start the rebuild on my new disc this week while waiting.
