propane radiant heater

For christmas my wife gave me a propane radiant heater that puts out up to 125,000 BTU. Just tried it tonight and it seems to work very well, even though it was only about 30 degrees. I only used it for a half hour or so wh;ile fixing the cord on my drill press and I think I should have cracked a window since I started feeling a little light headed. Guess it's time for a carbon monoxide detector, and I don't think I will wait until next christmas!lol

Greg, Just happened to see your post. I own one of these double burner heaters, too. These heaters are good, but you need to know that fuel burning heaters and stoves use up the oxygen in a closed room. You must let some air in from outside from time to time. We have prairie fires here in the Texas Panhandle and sometimes people die trying to get through or away from the fire because they run out of oxygen. The same with these heaters. Enjoy, but be careful and God Bless. ---Derrol in Texas---

36x24 or so. I know it is oversize, however you can turn it down too. The next plan is a little insulation(1 1/2" styrofoam covered with plywood or sheetrock)maybe if I have time this winter.

On top of what everyone else has told you unvented heaters put out a lot of moisture. I didn't realize how much until someone posted it on here. For every gallon of propane you burn you put 3 quarts of water in the air, and that water vapor will condense on anything cold- your tools, outside walls, and windows. They are only for short term temporary use, if you want to work out there very much get a vented heater.

They're cheap...I think I bought mine at Lowes. I use the radiant heater that sits atop the cylinder and like it very much and it is portable so I can have spot heat wherever I'm working and don't have to go the expense of insulating and sealing the shop and heating the whole thing. Radiants are supposed to be ok unvented. I never had a problem with mine but my shop has enough air passage that it doesn't matter. Grin.
