Propane Torch

Well I have waited long enough. Two weeks ago yesterday I went to my son's for a cup of coffee and returned home in 15 minutes. It was 8:00 am. Waked into the family room and noticed a small hammer I use to break up my wifes medicine ( she has Alzimers ).Assumed she was in the med's and rushed upstairs. Was struck in the head 4-6 times by an intruder using my propane torch with a 2 Lb bottle as a club. Ended up with 19 stitches a blood spot on the top of my brain and a major black eye. Lots of blood and 2 night stay in the hospital. My son got a license number and the police are after the guy.He is known to the family and threatened to kill me if I didn't open my large gun safe.Told him no way and ran.Only got about $20.0 and ruined my hearing aids.
This is not the way you want your tools used

Have a permit but in 50 years here have never had a problem. Even if I had my pistol on he hit me from a blind side and I could not have drawn and shot. I now carry all the time in case he is stupid enough to return and the doors are dead bolted. Don't like to live this way.

Short barreled Remington or Mossberg pump shotgun. Loaded with buckshot or #4 birdshot.Put in a easy to access place in your house or in your vehicle. Just about the best tool you can own.If you keep it in the house put it somewhere your wife can't find it.You may have to replace some drywall but the next intruder is not walking out under his own power

Wow! A home invasion is about the scariest thing I can think of! The thought of encountering someone crazy/stupid/desperate enough to break into an occupied residence chills my blood!

Sounds like you did the right thing by not cooperating with him! Hard to make good decisions under those circumstances.

Hopefully he will be caught. Praying for your speedy recovery.

I can't see anything you could have done different. Sharing your story might do the rest of us some good, though. My wife and I are already so security conscious that she usually urges me not to open the front door to a stranger's knock. If I do, I usually make a detour to pick up a bit of home protection to put in my back pocket first. A current project is to replace the storm door with a security door. We'll have to give up some cold weather insulation, but it will be so much better when my wife is home alone if she can open the front door to talk to someone without the possibility of them pushing their way into the house.

If I ever came home to my house when an intruder had been there, or was still there, the first thing I would see would be my dog dead or injured by the front door. She is too little to successfully drive off an intruder, but there's no way she wouldn't try. So, a security door is partly to save her life, too.
