PT2 brush painting tractor

So I ended up getting the HF HVLP sprayer and my grandpas 30 gallon, 5.5hp, 8.6 scfm at 40 psi compressor. Is that compressor enough? I'm going to use it anyway but I was curious if it is enough.

SOMETIMES the horsepower spec is a little overrated. I like the 5 HP (or similar) Shop Vacs.
That itty bitty motor’s got that much HP? Yea, right…
That should be a decent painting compressor.
I definitely agree that that seems like a lot of horsepower for it but it says it has it. Realistically I would think it's more like five horsepower.

The tractor to the left was painted with a Craftsman 5 hp 30 gal compressor rated at about the same.

The compressor closest to the wall is a compressor very similar in specs to yours.

I think the cfm rating may have been slightly exaggerated.
There were times it just wasn't quite enough, why I added the second compressor.
I did normal small farm/ home mechanic type amount of work with it over the years, and it started getting tired.
Replaced the cylinder liner and piston ring, that put some new life back in it.

So it's probably enough compressor.
May have to let it catch up occasionally, but that's more of an aggravation than a real problem.
Since you're gonna want to clean out your new gun anyway, maybe see how it does while you're doing that.

And have fun painting your tractor, don't stress over it. (do as I say, not as I do :) )

If that power cord that’s looped over the handle is for that compressor, then it most certainly is not a 5.5 hp unit. The plug looks to be for 120v single phase. They must be using the shop vac system of rating hp.
