PTO Driven seeder/ferterlizer spreader

I have a PTO driven broadcast spreader that I use mainly to sow grass seed. This is my second seeder and it does not do a great job of metering grass seed like fescue, it is either too much or too little. I can actually live with this; however, when sowing clover seed the metering gates get clogged and the agitator inside the seeder grinds the clover seed into clover flour as it turns around. I am thinking about getting another seeder and wonder what your opinion may be regarding something that has worked for you.

Have you had a Vicon? I had one and liked it. Tube wobbles side to side rather than a spinner. Any number of tubes and ends allows for all kinds of different spread patterns. Did Kubota acquire Vicon? Have to do some research I guess.

Buy a used drill with small seed attachment or better yet a Brillion seeder. They are
far more precise with coverage and the seed is in the ground where it belongs, not on
top.

I have a couple seeders, try to use the one that best fits the job. I mix clover with fertilizer as I fill the hopper, set the coverage low and make 2 passes over the same ground, different directions. That way I don't over seed or over fertilize any area. It make take an extra 20 minutes, but I get better coverage. But, I have just wasted 20 minutes, when I could have been texting some earth shaking subject to a friend ?????

"HERD" Broadcast Seeders have 3pt sizes up to 32 bushel, & as small as 1 bushel. Metal not plastic! Have used a model 750 for years to broadcast alfalfa, clover, timothy, orchard grass, oats, wheat, & of course dry fertilizer. Have never replaced anything; just keep it lubed, & clean after fertilizer especially, & it works very well. I am thinking of upgrading to the big 2400, or 2440 (forget the model #) But getting into some serious weight, & money on that one! $5000 give or take.

I cannot understand why anybody would want a PTO powered grass seeder. We had an electric powered seeder because of problems we could see with the PTO unit. Electric will keep the seeding width the same no mater what ground speed is. With the PTO seeder you have to slow down for a rough spot, waterway or other rough spot the fan slows down and not spreading seed full width aas well as putting seed heavier in the narrower broadcast pattern when you slow down for that rough spot or even for a turn. Area not seeded. Now an electric will still keep the full coverage, you might get a thicker seed spread but that is better than a unsowen strip for each pass with the seeder.

pto have worked fine you leave throttle at set rpm and use gears according I use it with feurst harrow pulled behind does fine for seed that I can not get to go thru drill, but I always swt unit for double spread

I have one I use when the seed will not go thru the drill it does fine, by chance is the opening to the rear of the cone or is it directly in the front bottom. the front bottom works whole lot better than rear in cone side. mine worksaver I always set to double spread use a 24ft feurst harrow pulled behind at same time
