PTO Issues on my TO30

Hi all,
I have a decent TO30 I’ve done a lot of work to. Anyhow, I hooked up my bush hog to it this spring and noticed the pto popping out of gear. If I put my hand down on it I can feel the pto handle moving up and down with the terrain, so my question is what should I be looking for when I pull the inspection panel?

Update, my pto shaft is moving in and out about 1/2 inch or more. It would seem that’s the issue, I’ll most likely pull the pto and press bearing and oil sleeve back into place. Any thoughts?

The pto shaft on the bush hog maybe too long forcing the shaft into the transmission or the shaft is bound up and pulling and pushing the tractor shaft. Pressing the bearing back in place will not solve the problem!!!

Thank you Roger in Iowa, I fully intend to A) shorten the shaft, B) lubricate the shaft and finally, C) push the bearing and seal back into their rightful places. Is that what you would do?

Yes, but that may not solve the problem once the bearing has moved. Time will tell. Good luck.

I also have a whole other shaft assembly I could use, it’s used.

Can anyone give me the end play specs on what the pto shaft should have? I have a used one from a to20 and it seems fine, but has some end play. The I&T manual has nothing on end play that I can find.

My endplay- To 20 + mf 35 = Not Mutch. I trust you checked your Snap Ring.

I have and it seems fine, the groove on the shaft of my used on my bench seems fine, it has about 1/4 inch end play though.
