PTO oil seal

I had to replace the PTO shaft of my 9N when the outside end sheared off. Was able to get a replacement used one which fitted easily. But the oil seal is leaking badly. The oil seal on the old one was fine. It didn't leak even after the shaft broke off.
So - the logical and economical solution seems to be to take the replacement shaft out again, and fit the old seal to it.

Or am I missing something? How hard is it to dissemble the housing? Am I going to regret trying this?

Do not use the old seal. Get a new one. Drain the fluid, remove the 4 bolts on the housing & pull it all out of the tractor. The seal has two spring clamps around it. Take your needle nose pliers & remove the one in the front. Then, hang the shaft & bearing housing in your vice & tap the butt end of the shaft; the bearing cap will come off (and the shaft will land on your foot). Then, remove the other spring clip from the other side of the seal. At this point, remember that you never bought a seal driver & go get a BF socket & drive the seal out. If you have the new style seal, the white side goes out. Put some grease on it.
