PTO Overide clutch

I have a override clutch on my 8n, I have replaced two roller pins
in two months, the override clutch wiggles a little on the PTO
shaft, the PTO shaft is good, does not wiggle without the overide
clutch on it, my question is, does the inside of a override clutch
ware out?

Yes they will wear out inside-keep em greased good and they last a long time..Have one on my 2N that has wiggle to it but it still works fine--gonna keep running it till it quits..If yours is shearing the roll pin, the OrC probavly needs replaced..

yes they wear. also.. if the ID of the ORC and the OD of your pto each have wear.. then you may be in a situation wher ethe roll pin is in the job of transmitting drive power... thus limiting it's life..

(quoted from post at 05:01:57 10/26/13) Thanks for the information, I will run the ORC until she quits, then get a new one.

Is this a new ORC ?? There are two different sizes for the PTO Shaft..

My impression is that the made-in-India ones often fit a bit loose.

BTW according to the old Hub City instruction sheet that has been floating around ORCs should be greased much more often than I suspect most of us are doing - several times a day when they are being worked hard - and also regularly dismantled, completely, cleaned, and relubed.

Here is that old Hub City instruction sheet....

Grease grease grease, I have ORCs on 3Ns 30+ yrs of bush hoggen and tilling . Grease grease and more grease. Cheap. Push grease till it pushes out old. Wipe off all expelled grease cause it will fly everywhere even on operator, don't ask me how I know. Grease all other fittings ontractor cheap insurance. I use Lithium base, dealers choise all mine were also made in USA. Master of the obvious L. B,

TOM I didn't mean to post under your post as if you were were giving bad info, yours is good info. L.B,

No this is not a new ORC its a few years old, I have replaced
3 roller pins, 2 in the last month, I am brush hogging weeds
some as tall as the 8n.

L.B. no problem at all....yea, and justin case someone missed it--grease , frease and more grease on ORC and other things with grease fittings--can"t hardly overdo it with grease..just be careful and don"t overdo places with rubber boots--don"t want to burst em..

Just replaced my 25+ yr old orc due to the little spring strips broke and the orc freewheeled. The pic above shows insides exactly like mine was. I greased it religiously, but things eventually wear out. Mine was $51.xx walkout price, made in India I think...we'll see.
