PTO overrun coupler sloppy

Ran my newly acquired (old) bush hog for the first time today and realized that my overrun coupler is quite sloppy and loose between the inner and outer halves. The inner female spline is nice and snog on my tractors pto shaft. But there is lots of slop in the unit itself. It works still but the front end of my driveshaft is kinda wobbly due to the coupler. I went and looked at new couplers at TSC today and they are $70. Can mine be rebuilt or should I just give in and buy a new one?

sounds like it either ran with no lube, or it's just reaced the end of it's usefull life.

replace it

Never heard of a rebuild solution. Replace and lube it every time you use it. $70 is not cheap, but if it prevents and accident it is well worth it.

Check ebay. I"ve never paid 70 bucks for one. They are all made in foreighn lands so buy as cheap as you can and go for it.

Thanks for the replies. I don't think it ran without lube. Had about half a tube of grease in it! I'll go buy a new one.

Thanks Dave, that's the one I need! I ordered one. Even with shipping thats $22 cheaper than TSC! Can't be any worse than what TSC sells. In fact it looks like the same one. :D

My orc came apart, due to drive shaft wobble, I didn"t realize that the two square "dogs"{about 2 or 2 1/2" long} fell out also. I thought they were in the mess of grease....Is there replacements available for these.?? the large snap ring broke, but I got a new one...after I cleaned it, I noticed that these two pieces were gone also....KEN

May I suggest a new one from the link above? Heck of a deal! I got a good used one I could make a heck of a deal on, not sure it's any better than yours though.
