pto seal

new guy here. I am trying to help my dad change seal on the pto shaft. what is the correct procedure. We loosened the flange around seal thinking flange and seal might come off as one unit.when we pulled on flange shaft started coming out with it. Tractor is a 1949 TO20.

Pull the shaft out. Seal is on the shaft. The cover only has a gasket, which you should replace also.

P.S., if you put front in ditch you won't lose so much fluid.

Forgot to add , putting the pto into gear before
removing shaft can help reassembly

The Circlips can be tight to remove, you need 3
small screwdrivers to do that. If you want the
