PTO shaft help

I just pulled my pto shaft out of my 63 4000 industrial to redo the seal and change the bearing. Looks like it’s the 1 3/8” shaft. I wanted to see what you all thought since I’m a first time tractor owner. I plan on cleaning it up and reusing it but it does look a little worn in some places and dinged up in other. Any general commentary on the dings and marks would be appreciated. Anything catch your eye? Should I replace it? That thicker section has very minor grooving that I plan on lightly sanding down, but not sure if that’s a good idea or not. I wonder if those wear marks mean I need to address the bearing in the hydraulic compartment. Anything you can share would be appreciated. Thanks!

Photos 2,3.6,7,8 are of no consequence IMO. Photos 1,4,8 are suspect IMO. Looks like the water/oil mixture made things wear much more. 1.4.8 rough edges might be able to be smoothed and work OK for years if not cracked. Bearings must be inspected and tested for smooth effortless rolling without play,( tapered bearing will have play when not loaded) after cleaning.

You can get a complete assembly for little enough that it is not worth rebuilding the old one. While you have it open make yourself a tool like a garden hoe to clean the mud and water out. It builds up because the drain plug is at an inch and a half higher level than the bottom.

No1 and 4 are not near a sealing surface and of no consequence. If bearing rolls freely and smooth, move on. No 5&6 show bit of wear where it goes thought the housing, but still okay. No8 needs a new gasket when reinstalling. Curious as to how it happened as there was a previous event of magnitude from something else running around the housing. As always check shaft be sure its not bent, splines are good and bearing spins freely before reinstall. SO while I would reuse all of this, I would inspect carefully the ring gear and pinion with a flashlight to see if all previous repairs were completed correctly. Maybe reach in and fish the bottom for left over debris is any from the previous event.

yea just make sure you get one from a good source, i got a replacement one, but the sucker just wouldnt go in all the way 100%, it was the darndest thing.......itd go 95% and I made sure it was aligned etc, but I guess something maybe got caught on the inner collar, thats the only geometry I could see that was maybe different but thats still a guess... so I just put the old one back in and did my field awhile back.
