pto shaft length

Replacing pto shaft assy in my '52 8N. Old shaft is 30". All replacements seem to be 30-7/8". Will that fit?

I'm assuming you're replacing it with a shaft with the newer and more conventional 1-3/8" output spline? I'm pretty sure that's where the extra length you're seeing comes from: The 1-3/8" output spline is a little longer than the old 1-1/8" spline you have now. So it should still be a bolt-in replacement (and well worth it to upgrade to the standard 1-3/8" spline).

Yes,
If he runs a bush hog type rotary mower he needs an ORC on the pto.
But if he never uses a bush hog type rotary mower he Doesn't need one.
So I suggest he skip that untill he needs it.

He said he already has one (ORC, later post #5) so the point is moot.

If he has an ORC, it implies he has a rotary cutter, or other flywheel equipped implement.........

The housing on the new shaft may be a tad oversized where it goes in the tractor, if so, you can dress it down with emery clothor enlarge the hole with a dremel and grinding/sanding stone. Mine was tight and I went ahead and put the bolts in and drew it down. Should be interesting if I ever have to pull it out.

Thanks for everyone's comments. I was mainly concerned about the extra 7/8".
I've owned 11 Ford tractors, so I'm not new to tractor lore.
Again, thanks!
