PTO Shaft needed

Hi everyone,
I just picked up an International 311 rotary cutter. It appears that someone attempted to weld up a driveshaft. It was definitely a botched job. Where can I find a driveshaft that will work on it or what can I do to get it running? Thank yall in advance!

That looks like "black iron" pipe. A for creativity. F for execution.

I would start over and find a complete new PTO shaft, stem to stern. Won't be cheap but it won't come apart and beat you and your machinery to a pulp.

Pull the whole works including the big round flange off the gearbox. That should reveal either a round or 6-spline shaft. A complete shaft is as close as your nearest Tractor Supply. You just need one with the correct ends and long enough to reach the tractor.

This place "Vevor" has inexpensive PTO shafts. You might want to check them out.

Please note also that if you take the big flange off that is also your clutch. Shear bolt type. So if you go all new you will have to get a slip clutch setup.

Here's another pic
So... I reposted one of your pictures with some crude red markings.

See that bend in the supports? (between the two red arrows)

Newer Bush Hogs have an articulated linkage (also crudely sketched... superimposed over that white car in the background, lol) for the three point hitch top link; which allows the back end of the Bush Hog to tip up towards the tractor... so that, if you cross a slight ditch or swale, you don't bend those supports.

If you don't have/use the articulated linkage, you 'could' just leave the three point hitch top link out, and let the Bush Hog ride on its back end... but this one doesn't have a dolly wheel in the back... which means it would slide along the ground.

Just something to think about.

Also, if you buy a new PTO shaft, you can avoid buying a new slip clutch if you buy:
-A new PTO shaft that just has a yoke at the Bush Hog end (note that you would need to ensure that the yoke on the new shaft mates to the universal joint "cross" used for the slip clutch.
-The appropriate PTO universal "cross" to mate the slip clutch to the new shaft.

Having said all of that... PTO assemblies are funny... sometimes you can get the whole thing... shaft, clutch and all... for less than the shaft and cross... because complete assemblies are made by cheap labor overseas and marked up once as an assembly. When you buy parts, you sometimes incur bigger markups.

Good luck.

If you are trying to do this"on the cheap", you could try cutting the pipe off from the yoke. By the looks of the weld I'll be that it would come off fairly easily, and then you would be able to see what the original shaft was and how it attached to the yoke most are a rectangular or square cross section that slips into the yoke. You will then see what you have and if it is feasible to get the old shaft out and weld a new one in.
