should my TO20 have wobble in the pto? I even took the over ride clutch off and i still have considerable wobble. how much is to much?

There shouldn't be any wobble. It can cause a lot of bad vibration if you use the PTO a lot and you'd risk taking out the bearing or cause other damage. The shaft is probably bent or something is worn. A new shaft with bearing and seal and housing will run you around a hundred bucks. I'd replace it if you plan to use it much.

Do you have an adapter attached to the PTO shaft?

I found that the bolt holding the adapter to my shaft was bent and a bit loose, causing some "wobble". A new bolt fixed everything.

If it's not the adapter causing the problem then I would investigate getting a new shaft.

If the PTO shaft "wobbles" then it is bent, this can happen if the PTO shaft on the implement does not telescope easily into its other part on the tractor. The PTO should be washed in kerosene or similar to get all the grit and old grease and oil and then you can see if it will then slide together easily, if it doesn't then it could damage the Tractor PTO shaft further. If the wobble is slight and only barely shows then it is OK to carry on using it, but if there is a distinct movement then it could damage the bearing, it will of course depend on where the actual bend is. If the shaft through the bearing is straight then it wont damage the bearing and you can carry on using it. Keep your eyes on the PTO shaft on any implement that both parts slide easily into each other, if they are tight when there is no load on them, they will be tighter still when it is being driven by the tractor under load. if you need the information about changing the PTO, just email [email protected]

Just want to add that the new shafts are not the original 1 1/8" type, but the new 1 3/8" inch type found on later and larger tractors. So, a stronger shaft.

And, it comes complete with a new bearing housing and everything there.
