PTO won't disengage

Yanmar fx235, was using a posthole digger, and tried to disengage the pto - NOTHING. The pto won't shutoff or shift into any other gear. I can disengage the pto by depressing the clutch. Tractor runs fine other than this. Any suggestions?

The lever moves freely from first to second, almost like it's broken. Also can get it into neutral. I can move it to third and fourth, but can't get it into those gears.....

Are you saying the pto is stuck in low (540rpm) speed? Lever will move in all postitions but no speed change or neutral?

PTO is stuck in the low position. The lever moves freely from first to second gear as well as neutral. Lever won't go into either third or fourth gear. The PTO stays on until the clutch is depressed. I can't get the PTO to stop turning without depressing the clutch...

Gotcha. If external shift linkage is intact and good working order then not much left other than internal. Only guessing your internal shift linkage is bent or broken. I am also guessing the FX235 pto gears do not pull out as a unit like some of the old YM series tractors. At the very least I would recommend getting a parts manual. They can be a great asset figuring out how things go together. Or maybe someone with a manual will post drawings for you.

The attached scan in from an FX24D manual. Could be similiar to yours since both are newer models. Never been able to attach my pictures with clarity on this sight. I have YM2020D and it is stuck in 2nd gear of the PTO.
I depress the clutch all the way in but the shifter won't budge at all
