Pulley/Flywheel removal on Model D

Need to remove pulley and flywheel on my D to seal some leaks and paint. Is it best to do one side at a time or does it matter if I pull both at the same time? If both are pulled what is best order to reinstall, pulley first or flywheel first or does it even matter?

It doesn't matter which you remove first ...Just when you go back together make sure to have the correct end-play. On my 44 A it is .03-.08 thousandths if I remeber correctly .Not sure on a JD D. Could be the same.

Get some help when you remove the flywheel. Its going to be real heavy. Is there anyway you can use a cherry picker or a hoist to hold it? You can put a small chain through the holes in the flywheel. When you slide it off it wont fall ot the ground.

Also don't forget to mark the flywheel. It has to go back on the SAME SPLINE as it came off....a permanent marker works well. As the same with the clutch driver.

Thanks for all the great tips. Already planned on using the cherry picker, got familiar with that with the rear hubs. Info I have on end play for D is .005-.010 so your close. Besides making sure that I'm back in the same splines any tricks to pressing wheel back on? Something I saw re another model hinted at blocks of wood and sledge hammers.
