pulling 60 jd

I have a 1955 model 60.I bought it just to pull in antique pulls. I am wondering if it would be better to swap the rear cast centers and rims for the lighter pressed steel wheels? And
also remove the powertrol and install a flatback. When I bought this tractor I was told to get it as lite as I can. Anyone have any ideas or anyone pull a 60 and what class do they do better in, heavy or lite classes?

I used to pull my 60 regularly and have pulled it from 5500 lbs. up to 8500. It always did better the heavier you made it. It liked the 8500 lb. class. Mike

Guys I know replace them with the pressed steel so they can pull in lighter divisions and also add the weight where they want it.

I've seen the fans and fan shaft removed and replaced with an electric fan, air intake replaced with K&N set up, gas tanks removed and replaced with small fuel cells. In general anything that can add unwanted weight or use horse power to run they figured out a way to get rid of it.

One of the neatest tractors I ever saw was one called Albino Deere. It was a 70 painted white at the front then faded to green towards the rear. He pulled pretty well from what I remember.

I pull with a "50 JD G, "50 JD A, "50 JD B, and "56 modified Jd 820. All the tractors pull better the heavier the tractor is.

2-cyl.-- Do you have any modifacations made to the engine? I pull a 50"A", with milled head Hi-comp. alum. pistons dynos 48 hp. Cast wheels W/ new 13-6-38 F&Rd. pulling 2nd gear we loose traction in the 5500 class. The Tractor alone weighs about 5300. Any suggestions on weights, on rear wheels or hanging? Thanks for any suggestions. Joe

I got a 56 allfuel 60 that I may start playing around and pulling when I can. Right now I have a full set of mounted cultivators on it with the rotary hoe attachments. I figure this should add at least 1,000#’s or more. So since yall are saying more weight is better then that means I could pull it like it sits?

a lot of places wont let u pull farm stock with pressed steel leave the cast put on some good 15.5x38"s and go 6500 and up a 60 pulls better in heavy classes plus it has a low first gear so even a stock engine still does good

ps. dont want to sell it do you?

My 60 is a straight farm tractor, 13.6-38 tires, with rear weight brackets on the axle and if I get time I bolt my front frame bracket on before i go, 4 wheel weights on each wheel, have them on for disking, motor has 1,500 original hours on the motor never been apart, my dad bought it new, it has power steering and a tach and all that good stuff, but it pulls great in the 7500,8500 classes, sometimes 6500 in 2nd gear. 2cylinder

Are you going to pull in division 1 strictly stock? I f so I would leave it with the cast centers...you"ll get in @ 6500# provided no loaded tires, you"ll start to get competitive 7500# maybe win if no 70"s or G"s are around. Just like my 70, I can get it in @ 7000 if they have that class, but there"s no use cuz it"s too light, if there"s no 720s around, I"ll add weights and pull 8000# and 8500# otherwise I take her home. My 70 is my favorite tractor, but like many Deere Models it"s a 1 maybe 2 class tractor, not trying to start a war here cuz I love all colors, but I can start the Super C @ 3500# and be very competitive up to 5500#, start the Super H @ 4500# and go up to 6500# and the Super M @ 6500# on up. With todays gas prices, unless the pull is close to home, I take a red one or two to get more bang for the buck spent on travel.
Now if you"re gonna tweak it a little and move up to div. 2 or 3 then put the pressed steel on, cut the tires and have fun!
